One of the most memorable weddings I’ve photographed was a beautiful Turkish wedding in Utah during COVID. Their ceremony was intimate, but they wanted a way to celebrate the day with stunning formal portraits — so we headed to Antelope Island for some truly unforgettable shots. Not being able to have family around for their ceremony made me feel even more honored to get to capture the couple in a way that they could share with their families back home.
Antelope Island is one of those locations that feels both epic and intimate at the same time. Even during a pandemic, it provided a safe, open space for this couple to have formal portraits while still maintaining social distancing. The wide-open landscapes, mountain backdrops, and golden light at sunset made every shot feel cinematic.
We didn’t just show up and shoot — Antelope Island requires a little planning for weddings, especially during COVID. Parking, permits, and timing were key to making sure everything went smoothly while keeping guests and vendors safe.
I’ve photographed many weddings, but this one stood out because of its mix of traditions, culture, and adaptability. COVID forced us to rethink timing and logistics, but it also allowed us to slow down and focus on the couple in a way that’s sometimes impossible with larger crowds.
One of the things I loved about shooting formals on Antelope Island was the space it gave us to tell their story visually. The bride’s gown flowed beautifully in the wind, the groom’s suit popped against the landscape, and the light made every moment glow. Even with restrictions in place, the day felt vibrant, joyful, and full of connection.
Weddings are fleeting, and COVID reminded all of us just how fast life can change. These portraits gave the couple a way to remember their day in full color, even if the ceremony itself was smaller than originally planned. As a Utah wedding photographer, moments like these — when couples can still celebrate, connect, and feel seen — are why I love what I do.
