There is something really fun about photographing couples who are completely comfortable around each other. This red ledges engagement session was exactly that! These two were so easy going the entire session and honestly just happy to spend time together. They met on a dating app and somehow instantly felt like one of those couples that have known each other forever. They are down to earth, natural together, and completely unafraid to just be themselves. Those are always my favorite kinds of engagement sessions.
This Red Ledges engagement session had some of the prettiest warm tones. Early spring in Utah can honestly be hit or miss, but this location photographed beautifully. The red rock textures mixed with their neutral outfits created such a soft and natural look. I also love that even though their wedding is going to include fun pops of color, they kept their engagement session styling really simple and timeless.
One thing I loved about this session was how intentional their outfits felt without looking overly styled. Her white dress had so much texture and movement while his neutral knit shirt added even more dimension against the sandstone backdrop. Neutral outfits can sometimes feel flat in engagement pictures, but when you mix textures like this it photographs SO well. The soft creams, tans, denim, and warm brown tones worked perfectly with the natural colors at Red Ledges.
One of my favorite things about Red Ledges engagement photos is how much variety you can get without needing multiple locations. The sandstone cliffs, little pathways, and open space all photograph differently depending on the angle and light. It feels very Utah without needing to drive all the way to Southern Utah. There is also secondary locations, like the river just a short distance away.
I also love locations like this because they don’t overpower the couple. Sometimes dramatic locations can steal attention from the people in the photos, but this spot still felt intimate and personal. The warm rock tones added texture and interest without distracting from how natural these two were together.
The movement during this session also made such a difference. Instead of overly posed engagement pictures, we leaned into walking, talking, laughing, and just letting them interact naturally. Those always end up being the images people connect with most because they actually feel like them. Of course, we got the smiling at the camera photos as well. I always joke and say “these are the pictures your grandparents want” because it’s so true!
If you are planning your own Red Ledges engagement session, I think this session is such a good example of how well neutrals photograph in this location. Creams, tans, warm browns, denim, muted greens, and soft earthy colors all work beautifully against the red rock backdrop.
I also think this location works especially well for couples who want engagement photos that feel natural and relaxed instead of overly formal. The textures and scenery already add so much visual interest that you really don’t need anything complicated for the session to feel artistic.
One thing to keep in mind with spring engagement sessions in Utah is that weather can change really quickly. Early spring can still be chilly, especially later in the evening, so layering pieces or bringing an extra jacket is always a good idea.
These Red Ledges engagement pictures honestly made me so excited for their wedding day. If their engagement session is any indication, their wedding is going to be full of personality, warmth, and really genuine moments.
