I think the Ogden valley is one of the prettiest places to be an extended family photographer. Getting your family together for an extended family photo session is incredibly difficult, unless you’re hosting a family reunion. It’s such a great location for get togethers small or large. One of the perks of being an Ogden extended family photographer is that you have the city and mountains just 20 minutes away from each other. This makes it so that even if you are local to Ogden it feels like a getaway to go up the canyon 20 minutes. You get places like Eden, Mountain Green, and Morgan that offer large Airbnbs for hosting but it’s only a 20-30 minute drive from the Ogden Valley. Because Ogden is such a family friendly city and it’s close to the mountains there are adventurous activities for every age. Don’t tell anyone, but I think Powder Mountain Ski Resort is one of the best kept secrets in Utah. It’s at a very high elevation which makes the snow incredible, and they limit the number of season passes so that it doesn’t get over crowded. They also offer night skiing which is limited in Utah. This makes it a favorite spot for high school students who can’t ski during the day!
The Rhodes extended family booked this photo session for mid September. They wanted to stay local in Weber County so that it wasn’t too far of a drive. I think this spot was a gem! It had a beautiful field of yellow grass that offered a neutral, non-distracting background. I couldn’t believe the trees were still so green. This is the type of background photographers dream of. The light stayed golden for over and hour, which I was thrilled about. Lighting is one of the most important things to get correct as an extended family photographer. With one family you can move around and play with the light, but when you have 5 families in front of you, you need to establish a spot quickly, and stay there the whole time!
