How To Plan A Cake Smash | Samson Turns One

I get asked all the time about How To Plan A Cake Smash. I thought I would write up some helpful tips. The first thing to plan for is getting a cake lined up.  This might seem obvious, but it’s overlooked more often than you would imagine. Make sure to buy a cake! If you’re in Davis or Weber county I highly suggest Bay B Cakes. She’s a local cake artist and she is crazy talented. Her cakes are obviously adorable. They taste even better. Every single client of mine that has purchased a cake from Baylee has been more than happy.

I’ve also had clients who book the session and completely forget about getting the cake until the day of. This always leaves them in a pinch. They just booked this session FOR the cake smash, and then they end up with a cake they don’t love. Don’t let this happen to you!

What to Bring To Your Cake Smash

Hannah brought the cutest decorations. I should have asked her for her personal tips on How To Plan A Cake Smash. She did such a great job. She made my job so much easier. We used his birthday party (that got postponed) decorations for his session. This is an easy way to personalized your child’s session. Plus you get more out of your decorations. Every mother wants more bang for her buck. Some moms bring nursery decor and I love this idea. It makes it so that your pictures match the child’s room. It also documents that nursery season that you spent so much time in. A lot of mom’s never get pictures in their nursery. So I think this is a really special way to get more out of your cake smash session.

One hesitancy that I hear a lot from mom’s is that they don’t want to spend the money on a full session for a cake smash. I totally understand this. You can book a full session, and do 30 minutes of family pictures, and have the last 30 minutes be a cake smash. Or you can book a full session and use that first 30 minutes to get portraits of your child, and use the last 30 minutes for the cake smash. That’s what we did in this session and you can see how darling it turned out. I think both of these are great options. I’m all for helping you get the most out of your hour that you have booked with me. Just reach out and communicate what you are thinking.
